Karate Champ NES Game Cartridge

Karate Champ was released for the NES in 1986. It was developed by Technos Japan and published by Data East. The game is based on the Player vs Player version from the arcades. The player would take control of their karate competitor to fight against the computer or another player.

The gameplay will consist of two Karate characters, one wearing white gi and one wearing red gi, fighting one on one. There will be a bonus round that the winning player will participate in. The pattern will repeat itself for the next round that will be more challenging and a different background. Unlike future fighting games, there is not a health bar and no hit points. When a hit is successfully landed, it will end a round, earning a player or the opponent half a point or a whole point. The first fighter to get two points will win the round. If the timer set for 30 seconds runs out, the fighter who has more points will win. If a battle is lost, the game will end. The game will also feature early synthesis for speech, having the judge call out Winner! or Fight!.
