Kid Niki NES Game Cartridge

Kid Niki: Radical Ninja was released for the NES in 1987 and was originally an arcade game that was released in 1986. Irem developed the game for both Japan and North America, and published the game for Japan while Data East published the game outside of Japan. There were little differences between Kid Niki and the Japan version Kaiketsu Yanchamaru. The biggest difference was the hair style of the main character. The hair in the Kid Niki version had more of a punk rock style with spikes and ponytail on the back. The Japan version has the character’s hair with spikes that are more subdued with a topknot. The arcade version has the character’s hair yellow while home ports has his hair red.

One day during the Feudal Japan era, the radical ninja Kid Niki was training at Ninja School. A bird one day was passing by and then an arrow struck it down and then landed near Niki’s feet. There was a note attached saying that Princess Margo, his girlfriend, has been captured by the Stone Wizard. Niki then burst through a wall of the school to set off on a journey to save his girlfriend Margo.

The player takes control of Kid Niki and has a Spinning Sword as his weapon. The weapon was passed down to him from past generations from the School of Chirin. Along with the sword, Niki can get more offensive power with Bells that he can collect. Gold Bells allows the player to shoot projectiles every time the sword is spun, while Silver Bells will create a force field. Both power ups have a limited time to last. Seven rounds are in the game with each round having a boss when completing one.
