DuckTales was released for the NES in 1989 and is a platformer type game. Capcom developed the game and it was based off of the Disney cartoon television series. It was later ported to the Game Boy in 1990. The plot is about Scrooge McDuck collecting treasure around the world to become the richest duck while trying to out smart his arch enemy Flintheart Glomgold. Several key members that helped create the Mega Man series was involved in the production of Ducktales. It sold 1.67 million copies worldwide for the NES a became the best-selling game for Capcom on that console. The Game Boy version also sold over a million copies and like the NES, became the best-selling game for Capcom on that platform. It had many praises for the tight controlling, non-linear and unique gameplay, and the bright presentation. It has appeared on multiple "Best" lists. A sequel was produced in 1993, DuckTales 2, and was also remastered in 2013 for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, and PC.

Scrooge McDuck is the character players take control of while traveling all over the world and space for five treasures. You will use your cane to get around the maps and to attack enemies. You can also break open chests and throw objects that are movable. When you jump, you can bounce around with Scrooge’s cane like you would with a pogo stick to kill enemies on their heads. Bouncing on your cane also provides a higher jump, which you can use to reach taller areas, r you can use the cane bounce to get across dangerous ground that would take HP away if you stepped on it with your feet. Diamonds can be found in specific areas or treasure chests to increase his riches, while ice cream restores his health. Characters from the cartoon will appear throughout the game to help like giving you items, hints, opening newer areas, or some that will try to stop your progression through the level.

The five levels in DuckTales are The Amazon, African Mines, Transylvania, the Moon, and African Mines. You can choose any level in any order to complete. Two levels, Transylvania and the African Mines, must be played again to get essential items. There are also two hidden treasures in some of the levels. Each level has a boss that Scrooge must beat in order to obtain the treasure that they are protecting. The player will return to Transylvania once all five treasures are obtained for a boss fight with the final boss, Dracula Duck. Once defeated, you compete with Magica Despell and Flintheart Glomgold to get the last treasure. There are three endings the player can get based on performance. A regular ending for clearing the game, a good ending or getting both of the hidden treasures and a minimum $10,000,000, and the worst ending for completing the game with $0.
